RUMI DESCRIBED HIMSELF as a ‘sea of poetry’ with ‘no other work’ to do but love. Here is that sea, the soul of the mystic, with many hearts concealed within its dancing waves. It is a sea that is both warm and cool, both red and blue: red with the passionate, ecstatic love of the Sufi, as he burns with his surrender to the divine; and blue with the cool, calm compassionate love of the Buddha.
This sea holds gold within its depths, too – the treasures that await those who dare to set sail upon these sometimes turbulent waters, to live from the heart. There is a poetry, a harmonious flow to life when we can stay afloat upon this sea, remaining connected to this oceanic quality, seeing all things through its loving lens.
