OSHO PRESENTED HIS SANNYASINS with a more difficult challenge than other masters have done. Rather than escaping far from the distractions of the world in order to meditate, he wanted us to take our meditativeness right into the marketplace, and keep it, even there. That requires a deeper meditation than one that may be broken by the clamour of the fruit vendors, the roar of traffic, the agitations of the crowd.

This marketplace seems quiet, but stand in the centre and see the wall of humanity rising up all around you – this is the global village, with buildings from every culture. The architectures may differ, but the glass in all those hundreds of windows is the same colour. Though we are shaped and conditioned by the accident of our birth, ultimately we are all the same within, where meditation takes us.
