THE FREE-FLOWING, close-up-chaotic currents of the cyclical dance of life, when seen from afar, fall into the form of a giant flower – as a greater harmony emerges from the fluid movements of these whirling women. Of course, this flower of life will be more beautiful when we arraign ourselves in rainbow colours, bringing the full richness of our being and our own celebratory spirit into the dance.

In this May Day festivity, there is no maypole to anchor the dancers to any rigid, dogmatic traditions. The parasol and the streamers they hold so lightly have a central point, but this point is not forever fixed. Although the dancers are grounded – their feet touch the earth – they are not pinned in one place by any traditional pole. They are free to move as the reality around them moves, taking their centre with them. The flower of their lives floats freely within the ever-shifting harmonies of the bigger picture.
