THE WHEEL of fortune has crooked spokes. Like a crazed Catherine wheel, it spins drunkenly, scattering its treasures in patterns that accord with its own bent geometry of justice. Follow this wheel, ride this wheel at your peril; it breaks as easily as it makes a man. And those who seek to know the will of the wheel of fortune, to understand its erratic motions, risk being so dazzled by its colourful projections that they no longer see the road ahead as it actually is.

Worldly fortunes come and go, the fortune we call luck also comes and goes throughout life, in large and in smaller waves.
